In the back room of a small pharmacy in Castres, in southwest France, a botany-obsessed pharmacist became convinced that an overlooked breakfast crop held dermatological promise. Oats had served medicinal purposes for three thousand years before falling out of serious pharmacy, and reviving them for sensitive skin meant solving a specific problem: ordinary oat extracts can carry proteins that provoke the very reactions they are meant to calm. The answer was both botanical and agricultural. The labs settled on a white, naked spring oat variety — harvested young, as shoots rather than mature grain, when its soothing flavonoids and saponins peak and before sensitizing proteins develop — then purified the extract to strip detectable proteins so even atopic, reactive skin can tolerate it. The plant is grown organically on land the group manages directly, with synthetic pesticides banned, an unusually vertical setup for a single cosmetic active. The name itself encodes the philosophy: the brand's debut was a dermatological cleansing bar built around the oat, with the letter for the oat fused to the dermatological root. From that hero plant the range expanded in deliberate stages rather than chasing fads — cleansing solutions for itch-prone atopic skin in the mid-1990s, then repair lines such as Dermalibour for irritated and damaged skin and Epitheliale for compromised barriers, plus sterile, preservative-free formats for the most fragile complexions. The catalog now reaches into anti-redness, acne-prone and hydration territory, but the organizing logic never changed: build outward from one trusted plant rather than layering on trend ingredients. What the brand sells, in practice, is restraint and consistency — fragrance-light, barrier-friendly formulas distributed mainly through European pharmacies, leaned on by healthcare professionals precisely because they promise tolerance rather than transformation.
