The man who started it all was 26 years old and not, by training, a beauty person at all. Byunghoon Kim launched a company called Innoventures in 2014 with a single charcoal cleansing bar and a hunch about how products spread online, and within a decade that scrappy operation had become APR Corp — a roughly four-billion-dollar conglomerate that went public on the Korea Exchange in 2024, with Kim's stake alone estimated above a billion dollars.
That trajectory matters because it explains the brand's DNA. Kim treated cosmetics less like a chemistry problem and more like a data-and-distribution one: read what audiences engage with, ship it fast, let the feed do the marketing. The approach minted siblings — the targeted-treatment line Medicube in 2017, the device-driven skincare-tech arm, the streetwear label NERDY, plus shorter-lived experiments like Forment and Glam.D. The bar of soap was patient zero for an entire house of brands.
Within that portfolio, the soap-and-cushion label occupied the gateway slot: the friendly, low-commitment entry point. As the parent company poured resources into Medicube's device business, this line settled into being the dependable everyday range rather than the innovation showcase — botanical-leaning toners, peel-off masks, rice and calendula formulas, and the rebranded heir to that original cleansing bar. The aesthetic stayed bright and spring-fresh; the formulas stayed gentle and inexpensive.
The honest read follows from the business model. A brand engineered around marketing velocity and trend-reading produces pleasant, accessible, fairly priced products — but novelty of actives and deep clinical work were never the point, and they aren't here. What you get is competent everyday skincare from a label that happened to bankroll one of Korea's biggest beauty IPOs. Judge the formulas on feel and value, not on a research pedigree the brand never claimed to chase, and it holds up as a reliable daily option rather than a problem-solver.

More about Aprilskin
Aprilskin was founded in Seoul in 2014 and built its reputation on viral hits like the Magic Snow Cushion and the Magic Stone/Signature Soap.
Its formulas use well-known gentle ingredients, but as a social-media-driven indie brand it has limited independent clinical validation of its specific products.
