The story behind Common Heir Read the full story
The two founders were set up on a blind phone call by a mutual friend, just before the pandemic scattered them between Austin and Los Angeles. There was no childhood-friends backstory and no shared history; what they had in common was a conviction that high-performance skincare didn't have to come wrapped in plastic. One had left a consulting job for an unpaid beauty internship and went on to help reimagine a major clean-beauty name; the other had spent close to a decade in product development, having helped build one of the original clean-beauty labs and worked on dozens of brands. Between them they had the formulation chops and the disillusionment to try something the big players kept failing at.
Their answer was a delivery format rather than just a formula. The debut vitamin C serum arrived not in a bottle but in a vegan, biodegradable, plant-based capsule, a single-dose unit meant to keep a notoriously unstable active sealed away from air until the moment of use while sidestepping the plastic tube or dropper bottle that dominates the serum aisle. The capsule was the entire thesis: prove that sustainability and efficacy weren't a trade-off.
From there the line stayed small and deliberate, adding retinol and a ceramide barrier serum in the same capsule system rather than sprawling into dozens of SKUs. The founders' inherited-stewardship ethos, the idea that skin and earth alike are handed down to be cared for and passed on, runs through the brand's framing, and it has been recognized for its LGBTQ ownership.
Its credibility rests on the founders' formulation pedigree and a genuinely differentiated sustainability angle rather than proprietary clinical trials. For shoppers who want familiar actives with eco-conscious packaging, it's a distinctive, if still young, option.

More about Common Heir
Founded in 2020 by clean-beauty veterans Cary Lin and Angela Ubias, Common Heir is a US brand known for delivering actives like vitamin C and retinol in plastic-free, biodegradable plant-based capsules.
The founders bring prior clean-beauty product-development experience, and the brand's distinctiveness lies in sustainable single-dose packaging rather than in independent clinical validation of its formulas. As a brand under five years old, its long-term track record is still developing.
