The story behind d'Alba Read the full story

The brand's name and its hero ingredient both point to a single town in northern Italy, but the company itself is thoroughly Korean, and that tension is the whole concept. It was the work of founder Ban Seong-yeon, who set up the parent company, originally called B Monument, in 2016 and later renamed it after the brand that made it famous. His fixation was a fungus so prized it commands restaurant-menu prices, recast not as food but as a skincare active.

Rather than simply list truffle on a label, the company engineered a proprietary hook: a patented complex it dubbed Trufferol, blending white-truffle extract with tocopherol (vitamin E) in a fixed ratio, giving the marketing a trademarked through-ingredient that recurs across mists, ampoules, creams, and sun care. The defining product, though, wasn't a serum but a fine spray serum that picked up the nickname 'flight attendant mist' after Korean cabin crews reportedly reached for it to rehydrate in bone-dry long-haul cabins, word-of-mouth that did more than any ad budget could and turned a niche luxury idea into a top-selling facial mist well beyond Korea.

The momentum culminated in the public markets. After years of private growth, the company listed on Korea's main KOSPI exchange in May 2025, valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and the stock spiked sharply in the weeks after debut, a striking outcome for an indie skincare label, and it has leaned into K-pop ambassadorships to push global expansion.

The sober read: the rare-truffle romance does heavy lifting. Truffle extract is a perfectly pleasant antioxidant, but independent clinical evidence that it outperforms established actives is thin, and the once-a-decade-harvest framing is storytelling more than measured efficacy. You're paying a premium for sensory polish and an unusually well-told story, both executed with real confidence.

Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF 50+

A modern Korean chemical sunscreen that earns its hype. The Uvinul A Plus + Tinosorb S filter blend gives broad-spectrum protection with zero white cast, while niacinamide and panthenol push it past sun protection into genuine skincare territory. The 50ml tube at $32 is the only real friction.

Piedmont UV Tone-Up Sunscreen SPF 50+

A pretty, well-filtered tone-up sunscreen with a genuine misstep baked in. The pink-correcting veil looks natural, the next-gen filter system is photostable, and the texture is genuinely essence-light. But d'Alba scented a leave-on facial SPF with citrus essential oils, and the premium price leans hard on the white-truffle story. Good for the right skin — just not the fragrance-sensitive.

White Truffle First Spray Serum

The original biphasic mist that launched d'Alba and sparked the entire Trufferol category. Shake, spray, and skin looks immediately glowier thanks to a plant oil phase layered over niacinamide and adenosine. The formula holds up on review, but fragrance, alcohol, and peppermint extract keep it out of the sensitive-skin column.

White Truffle Nourishing Treatment Mask

A rare K-beauty sheet mask that actually tells you how much of its hero ingredient it contains — 10,000ppm of white truffle extract. The formula layers centella, bifida ferment, panthenol, and a five-molecular-weight hyaluronic stack into a fragrance-free recovery mask. Peppermint and eucaliptus extracts are the only real watch-out for sensitive users.

White Truffle Return Oil Cream Cleanser

You're paying a truffle-flavored premium for what is, at heart, a genuinely nice gentle vegan cream cleanser. Strip away the Piedmont-truffle and Belgian-spa-water romance and you find a soft isethionate base, a rich nourishing-oil blend, and vegan ceramide — a lovely, non-stripping wash for dry and normal skin. The catch: for a cleanser marketed to sensitive skin, it quietly slips in added fragrance. Effective and pleasant, if you're comfortable paying $29 for the story.

Peptide No-Sebum Mild Gel Cleanser

A competent mid-market Korean gel cleanser with a genuinely gentle surfactant base and a useful splash of betaine salicylate for daily pore maintenance. The peptide and white truffle positioning is more marketing than mechanism, and the lavender-heavy scent profile rules it out for fragrance-sensitive skin, but for combination and oily K-beauty shoppers who enjoy a botanical sensory experience, it's a reasonable pick.

White Truffle First Aromatic Spray Serum

d'Alba's signature biphasic mist in its more overtly perfumed form. You shake the oil and rose water phases together, spray, and walk away with real glow and a fragrance-forward sensory experience. The formula earns some of its hype through niacinamide and plant oils — the rest is atmosphere, and the price reflects it.

More about d'Alba

Founded in 2014, d'Alba (d'Alba Piedmont) is a premium Korean skincare brand built around white truffle extract and vitamin E, and is fully vegan and cruelty-free.

White truffle extract is a nutrient-and-antioxidant ingredient with limited independent clinical validation, and the brand's positioning emphasizes sensory luxury and a sourcing narrative.
