The story behind Ducray Read the full story

Albert Ducray was a hairdresser's apprentice in Belle Epoque Paris, the son of a dermatologist, and what bothered him was the soap powder everyone used as shampoo: it left hair brittle and lifeless. His response, worked out roughly between 1929 and 1931, was genuinely novel for the era, an early ready-to-use treatment shampoo built around an innovative single-dose soap concept tailored to different hair types, complete with the radical notion of telling people how to use it. That instruction-led, almost clinical approach to a product previously treated as an afterthought is the seed of everything the house became. The signature category has always been the scalp. The Anaphase line, aimed at thinning hair and weak density, became the anchor product, joined over the decades by targeted ranges for stubborn scalp conditions, dandruff, seborrheic flaking and psoriasis-prone plaques, plus expansions into blemish-prone skin and pigmentation. Through the twentieth century the brand accumulated the trappings of a serious dermatological laboratory, in-house dermatologists, a stack of active patents and a habit of framing each product as a remedy for a specific complaint rather than a beauty indulgence. The most important caveat is reserved for the hair-density range that draws the most hope. Those products are cosmetic supports engineered to strengthen the look and feel of existing hair and slow the visible progress of thinning; they are not pharmaceutical regrowth treatments, and conflating the two leads to disappointment. Read correctly, the brand is a near-century-old dermo-cosmetic house with real research behind it and a clinical sensibility baked into formulas, most convincing on scalp health and reactive, sensitive skin, where its heritage of methodical, problem-first formulating actually shows.

Keracnyl Anti-Blemishes Regulating Serum

Ducray Pierre Fabre French pharmacy multi-active acne + PIH serum with azelaic acid + glycolic acid + Myrtacine signature ingredient + niacinamide + monolaurin + vitamin E pair. Keracnyl Repair Cream

A purpose-built rescue cream for the dryness, flaking, and itch that retinoids and benzoyl peroxide leave behind. Fragrance-free, richly emollient, and very gentle, it does one job — keeping medicated skin comfortable enough to stay on treatment — and does it reliably. Too heavy for oily zones and a touch plain, but exactly right for its mission.

Melascreen UV Light Cream SPF 50+

The daily-driver companion to Ductray's Melascreen line — a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ with strong UVA coverage and supporting brightening actives, in a formulation gentle enough for indefinite use. The right choice for melasma maintenance, pregnant patients, and anyone who wants daily sun protection that does a little more than just block UV. The lighter sibling to the Depigmenting Cream variant.

Melascreen Depigmenting Cream SPF 50+

One of the most thoughtful melasma day creams on the European pharmacy market — four brightening mechanisms layered with broad-spectrum SPF 50+ in a single daily product. Specifically built for the patient population most prone to melasma treatment failure: people who skip either the active treatment step or the sunscreen step. Pregnancy-safe, well-tolerated, and clinically credible.

Ducray Ictyane HD Emollient Cream 200 ml white tube Classical Dry-Skin Staple
Ducray moisturizer

Ictyane HD Emollient Cream

A classical French pharmacy emollient that does the fundamentals well at a fair price — ceramides, cholesterol, squalane, and shea butter in a rich but non-greasy cream. Excellent for genetically dry body skin, winter xerosis, and mild keratosis pilaris. The only real asterisk is the fragrance, which rules it out for the most sensitive users.

Ictyane Ultra-Rich Face Cream

A genuinely rich facial cream built for very dry skin, winter xerosis, and retinoid buffering. Ceramides, cholesterol, squalane, and shea butter deliver real barrier repair on a substantial occlusive base that still absorbs well enough for daily wear. The fragrance and small tube size keep it from a higher score, but for the right skin type it earns its place.

Ducray sunscreen

Melascreen UV Rich Cream SPF 50+

Ducray Melascreen UV Rich is one of the rare sunscreens built around the actual biology of melasma instead of a generic SPF number. The four-filter European system prioritizes deep UVA coverage, and the Nonapeptide-1 plus ferulic acid backup gives it real pigmentation credentials. At $32 for 40ml it's not cheap, but for anyone actively managing hyperpigmentation it earns the spend.

Dexyane Anti-Scratching Emollient Cream

A specialist eczema cream that does something most competitors don't bother with: actively targets the itch, not just the dryness. Enoxolone and sucralfate layered on a solid shea-butter emollient base deliver genuine anti-itch relief within minutes, and it's gentle enough for daily use on face, body, and children's skin. Hard to find in the US, worth the effort.

Dexyane MeD Soothing Repair Cream

A genuinely unusual eczema cream — one of the few over-the-counter options built around Tripterygium wilfordii extract and registered as a European medical device. Faster-acting than typical emollient creams on acute flares, with published tolerance data to back it up. Not a steroid replacement for severe cases, but a credible bridge between basic barrier creams and prescription treatment.

Ducray cleanser

Keracnyl Foaming Gel

A gentle, genuinely usable daily acne cleanser that degreases oily skin without the stripped, irritated aftermath of harsher washes. Ducray's Myrtacine-and-zinc approach is a thoughtful alternative to salicylic acid foams, though the added fragrance and sulfate base keep it off the table for reactive or very dry skin. Solid, unglamorous, dependable.

Ducray cleanser

Ictyane Cleansing Cream

A lipid-rich cream wash that genuinely cares for dry skin, depositing sweet almond and safflower oils as it cleanses so you step out of the shower soft instead of tight. The emollient logic is sound and the gentle surfactant base is well judged. The catch is a meaningful fragrance-allergen load that makes it a poor pick for reactive or eczema-prone skin.

Keracnyl PP+ Anti-Blemish Cream

An upgraded version of the original Keracnyl PP that adds celastrol and phytic acid for more aggressive anti-inflammatory and anti-pigment action. The four-mechanism approach (sebum, inflammation, bacteria, pigmentation) is unusually comprehensive for a non-prescription acne cream, and the formula is still gentle enough to layer with retinoids. Held back only by the pregnancy uncertainty and small tube.

Keracnyl PP Anti-Blemish Soothing Cream

A thoughtful soothing cream for acne-prone skin that earns its place in a routine alongside — not instead of — stronger acne treatments. Niacinamide, Pierre Fabre's patented Myrtacine, zinc PCA, and bisabolol do real work calming barrier damage from retinoids and benzoyl peroxide. Not a standalone treatment, but one of the best retinoid companions at this price.

Keracnyl Glycolic+ Unclogging Cream

A clever little glycolic acid cream that treats blackheads and congestion while keeping irritation in check with real soothing actives. The rice-starch base gives oily skin a mattifying finish most acid toners can't, and the Myrtacine angle adds an antibacterial dimension. Fragrance and a tiny tube are the main gripes, but it punches above its size.

More about Ducray

Founded in 1930 by hairdresser Albert Ducray and owned by France's Pierre Fabre group since 1969; a pharmacy-distributed dermatological brand with in-house dermatologists, multiple patents and decades of clinical development, though its hair-density products are cosmetic supports rather than pharmaceutical treatments.
