Mumbai-based, efficacy-first D2C skincare brand creating affordable, clinically-tested products for Indian skin.

The story behind Foxtale Read the full story

Foxtale was born out of frustration. Romita Mazumdar, who had worked in investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and in venture capital, found the Indian skincare market poorly suited to local skin and climate, and reportedly interviewed thousands of women to understand their needs before launching. She founded Foxtale in early 2021 and set up an R&D lab in Chennai, positioning the brand as a digital-first, efficacy-led label tailored to Indian skin. From the start, Foxtale leaned on community testing, with the brand stating that products had to clear high internal efficacy thresholds before launch, and it focused on hero products that delivered visible results, most notably its Vitamin C serum, which became an early growth engine. The brand has since expanded into moisturizers, sunscreens, and broader face and body care, and grew rapidly to substantial revenue within a few years on the back of venture funding. As an emerging brand only a few years old, Foxtale's strengths lie in its formulation focus and fast traction; its longer-term standing and independent clinical validation are still being established.

Foxtale Dewy Finish Sunscreen SPF 70 tube, a lightweight dewy-finish sunscreen with next-generation filters, niacinamide and panthenol, no white cast Dewy Next-Gen SPF 70
Foxtale sunscreen

Dewy Finish Sunscreen SPF 70

A genuinely impressive budget sunscreen: SPF 70 from three modern, photostable filters none of which the US even allows, plus niacinamide and panthenol, in a dewy glow-giving base for around six dollars. It's excellent for dry and normal skin that wants protection plus radiance — the only caveats are a finish too shiny for oily skin and a (low-allergen) fragrance.

Foxtale Glow Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++ tube, a bestselling no-white-cast glow sunscreen with Tinosorb M, niacinamide and vitamin C Bestselling Glow SPF
Foxtale sunscreen

Glow Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++

The sunscreen that made Foxtale: a luminous, no-white-cast glow SPF 50 PA++++ built on Tinosorb M and modern filters, with niacinamide and vitamin C, for around four dollars. It earns its bestseller status — genuinely good protection, a flattering finish, and brightening extras at a giveaway price. The only catches are a fragrance and a base that isn't fungal-acne safe.

Foxtale Ceramide Moisturizer, a silky barrier cream with a complete ceramide-cholesterol set and cross-linked hyaluronic acid Silky Ceramide Barrier Cream
Foxtale moisturizer

Ceramide Moisturizer

A silky, silicone-elegant barrier cream that punches above its price: a complete ceramide-cholesterol-phytosphingosine set plus cross-linked hyaluronic acid for around six dollars, with a texture that feels more expensive than it is. It genuinely repairs and hydrates without heaviness — only a fragrance, the silicone-forward base, and a not-fungal-acne-safe formula give pause.

Foxtale Oil Balancing Moisturizer, a lightweight oil-free gel with niacinamide, encapsulated azelaic acid and cica for oily, acne-prone skin Azelaic Oil-Control Gel
Foxtale moisturizer

Oil Balancing Moisturizer

A daily moisturizer that's secretly a treatment: encapsulated azelaic acid — an underrated hero for acne, marks, and redness — plus niacinamide and cica, in an oil-free, fungal-acne-safe gel with a soft-focus finish, for around five dollars. It's a smart, effective pick for oily and breakout-prone skin, with only a mild azelaic tingle and a fragrance to note.

Foxtale C for Yourself Vitamin C Serum 30ml tinted dropper bottle, an affordable 15% L-ascorbic acid and vitamin E brightening serum Budget 15% Vitamin C Serum
Foxtale serum

C for Yourself Vitamin C Serum

A genuinely effective 15% pure L-ascorbic acid serum with the proven vitamin E pairing and a smart phytic-acid stabilizer, at a price that undercuts most of the category. It brightens and fades dark spots reliably over time and punches well above its cost — held back mainly by L-ascorbic acid's inherent instability, an added fragrance, and a potency that demands easing in.

More about Foxtale

Foxtale is an Indian direct-to-consumer skincare brand founded in 2021 by Romita Mazumdar, a former investment banker and venture capitalist.

It is positioned as an efficacy-first, science-driven brand built for Indian skin, with products developed through community testing and an in-house R&D lab. As a young, venture-backed brand, its track record is still building; its credibility rests on formulation focus and strong commercial growth rather than long-term independent validation.
