Greek natural skincare born from Athens' oldest homeopathic apothecary, pairing Greek botanicals with clinical science.

The story behind Korres Read the full story

Korres began not with a cream but with a cough remedy. The brand's very first product was an aromatic herbal syrup of honey and aniseed, a recipe George Korres adapted from rakomelo — the warming honey-and-spirit drink his grandfather favored back on the island of Naxos. That bridge between family memory and pharmacy bench captures how the line actually started: as a working apothecary's experiments, not a beauty launch.

Korres came to Athens to study pharmacology and took a post in 1989 at the Tzivanides Pharmacy, set up in the mid-1960s as Greece's first homeopathic dispensary, tucked behind the Kallimarmaro stadium. He was skeptical of homeopathy at first, then won over by the herbal archive he was handed — by some accounts around 3,000 preparations — when he was trusted to manage the shop in 1992. The leap from compounding remedies to selling skincare came with the Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturising Cream, the brand's first proper skincare product and the one that turned a local Greek venture into a global best-seller, seeding the rosehip-and-vitamin-C identity the range still leans on.

Growth followed quickly. The company listed on the Athens stock exchange, distributed in the United States at one point through a Johnson & Johnson arrangement, and rolled out standalone stores across Europe and into Asian markets including Singapore and South Korea. By its twentieth anniversary in 2016 it was expanding through acquisition rather than just shelf space.

The through-line is a pharmacist's habit of sourcing close to home — Greek yoghurt, black pine, wild rose, and native herbs treated as functional actives rather than scenery. The honest caveat is unchanged: the efficacy case rests on that ingredient research and the pharmacy lineage more than on a deep file of independent clinical trials.

Korres Mineral Milk Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50 bottle with botanical Korres packaging Antioxidant Mineral Milk
Korres sunscreen

Mineral Milk Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50

A 100% mineral fluid that pulls off a light, milk-like texture most physical sunscreens can't, then stacks on a genuine antioxidant payload — ferulic acid, astaxanthin, niacinamide — and Korres' hydrating yoghurt ferment. It protects and defends against photo-aging in one fresh-feeling step. The added fragrance keeps it off the list for the most reactive skin, and at $34 for 40ml it's priced for the skincare-forward formula, not bargain mineral protection.

Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Probiotic Gel-Cream jar, a lightweight hydrating gel-cream with hyaluronic acid, yogurt proteins, and probiotics Probiotic Hydration Gel-Cream
Korres moisturizer

Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Probiotic Gel-Cream

A genuinely well-formulated lightweight gel-cream that hydrates and comforts skin through a strong multi-weight hyaluronic acid and natural-moisturizing-factor complex, dressed in Korres's likeable Greek yogurt and probiotic story. It is an easy, broadly-suitable daily moisturizer; the caveats are added fragrance, a cooling agent some won't love, and that it isn't vegan.

Korres Black Pine 3D Sculpting Firming Day Cream jar, Greek botanical firming moisturizer with black pine extract, hexapeptide-11, and green tea antioxidants Greek Botanical Firming Cream
Korres moisturizer

Black Pine 3D Sculpting Firming Day Cream

A nourishing, antioxidant-rich Greek botanical day cream built around Korres's signature black pine extract, with a peptide and a tensing flower for an instant smoothed feel. It's pleasant and well-made, but the firming claims have limited independent backing, the fragrance-allergen load is heavy, and at this price it asks you to buy partly into the botanical story.

Korres cleanser

Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser

A genuinely gentle, well-built everyday cream cleanser that foams softly, lifts away the day's grime, and leaves skin comfortable rather than tight. Its mild modern surfactant base earns broad, all-skin-type appeal; the Greek yogurt and probiotic story is more pleasant character than active benefit, and the only real caveats are added fragrance and that it isn't vegan.

Korres mask

Wild Rose Brightening Sleeping Facial

A thoughtfully-built overnight brightening mask that pairs a stable vitamin C with tetrahydrocurcumin — a clever colorless turmeric antioxidant — plus rosehip oil and hyaluronic acid, so skin wakes dewier and gradually more even-toned. It is a genuinely nice nighttime treatment for dull, drier skin; the trade-offs are added alcohol, fragrance, and that it isn't vegan.

Korres serum

Apothecary Wild Rose 15% Vitamin C Spotless Serum

A nourishing, well-built oil-serum that delivers a meaningful 15% of a stable vitamin C ester alongside Korres's signature wild rose and rosehip oils, for gentle brightening without the sting of pure vitamin C. It is a genuinely good pick for drier, dull skin; the trade-offs are fragrance, a rose-oil richness that won't suit oily skin, and UV filters that confusingly are not sun protection.

More about Korres

Founded in 1996 by Greek pharmacist George Korres, Korres grew out of Athens' oldest homeopathic pharmacy and built its identity on natural and certified-organic botanicals with clinically tested formulas.

With nearly three decades on the market, more than 400 products, and presence in roughly 30 countries, it carries a substantial track record; its pharmacy roots and ingredient research underpin credibility, though its evidence base is more brand-led and ingredient-focused than tied to large independent trials.
