The whole company began with a small act of male embarrassment. One of the founders noticed Korean skincare bottles by a friend's bathroom sink, then realised every guy in the house was quietly using the same things and stashing them in drawers, as if caring about their skin were something to apologise for. That detail — men who want a routine but feel they have no permission to want one — became the entire pitch. The companion realisation came from his own sister, who handed him a regimen built from products she still bought from home, in South Korea.
From there the brand leaned hard into the on-ramp. Formulas were developed in Korea but the real product was the education wrapped around them: plain-language guidance, short routines, and a tone that assumed the buyer spoke zero fluent 'beauty.' Growth came less from a single viral moment than from a relentless direct-to-consumer engine — a free-trial model that rolls into subscription, and an affiliate army it brands 'Luminaries,' rewarding anyone who brings a friend into the fold. Unusually for an American DTC name, it went global-first, with the United States accounting for only about half its orders and distribution reaching more than seventy countries.
That machine attracted serious money. In 2021 the European investment house Eurazeo poured roughly fifty-three million dollars into the parent group, part of a sixty-eight-million-dollar round, fuel for a portfolio that had already added a second men's label, Meridian, in 2020. The honest read on the products themselves is that the innovation was framing, not chemistry: competent Korean-style cleansers, moisturisers and eye treatments that happen to be sold as 'for men,' though skin does not read gender. You are paying for curation, comfort and a no-judgment doorway into a habit — which, for the customer who needed exactly that, is a fair trade.
