Long before there was a product, there was a fifty-page blog post. In 2017 an anonymous writer publishing under the initials f.c. uploaded what became known as the Fungal Acne Treatment Bible, an obsessively cited deep-dive into malassezia, the skin yeast that drives a stubborn, acne-mimicking eruption that ordinary acne products often worsen. It had grown out of years of personal misery — acne, malassezia folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis — and a frustration that no reliable plain-language guide existed. The post and its enormous comment thread helped thousands of people, and the demand for safe products was the seed for everything that followed.
The central engineering constraint is unusually strict and explains why such a brand had to be built from scratch. Malassezia feeds on certain fatty acids, esters, and oils, the very building blocks most moisturizers and cleansers rely on, so every formula has to be deliberately starved of the yeast's food supply. That single rule disqualifies a huge swath of standard cosmetic ingredients, which is exactly why people whose skin reacts to conventionally "gentle" products find this lineup such a relief.
The roster stays small and self-funded: a low-irritation cleanser, a urea-based moisturizer that began as the founder's own personal blend, and a micronized benzoyl-peroxide treatment gel, shipped in recyclable aluminum.
The verdict is mostly admiring with one honest flag. The premise is legitimate and rigorously argued, the actives are well-evidenced workhorses, and the transparency is genuine. But the brand's most quotable success rates come from its own user surveys, not independent trials, so the biggest numbers should be read as encouraging in-house data rather than proof. For the narrow, genuinely hard problem it set out to solve, few options are this thoughtful.

More about Malezia
Launched in 2021 (from a blog begun in 2016) and based in the United States, Malezia formulates exclusively for malassezia / "fungal acne"-prone skin around evidence-based actives such as benzoyl peroxide and urea; its headline efficacy figures derive from internal user surveys rather than independent clinical trials.
