The story behind Mantle Read the full story

Josefin Landgård grew up in northern Sweden as an elite competitive skier, her face perpetually scoured by mountain wind and sub-zero air, which left her preoccupied with what genuinely protects skin under stress. That preoccupation arrived only after a first career in healthtech: she sat on the founding team of telemedicine company KRY (Livi abroad), later steered the subscription beauty service Glossybox as chief executive, and spent years building digital-health businesses before turning to formulation. The pivot was personal as much as strategic. A punishing startup cycle, a separation, two young children and chronic insomnia sent her looking for a calming aid, and a trip through New York, where cannabidiol was suddenly infused into everything from seltzer to serums, planted the idea that it might belong in skincare too.

What distinguishes the line is a refusal to treat one buzzy molecule as the whole proposition. Landgård and co-founder Stina Lönnkvist diagnosed a gap between cold, clinical brands and warm-but-flimsy natural ones, and built formulas to bridge it. Each product is field-tested in genuine Nordic extremes, down toward minus fifteen degrees, in a northern Swedish lab rather than a marketing department. The catalog reaches well past its calming reputation: a Longevity Serum leaning on EGF and orchid stem cells, the niacinamide-and-bakuchiol Glow Serum, the overnight Dream Mask that became the breakout hit, plus richer creams and essences for barrier repair.

Investors have backed the thesis. A 2024 round led by British venture firm Venrex brought roughly 2.4 million pounds, lifting total funding near 6.9 million and financing expansion across Europe and toward the United States, with a team reported as overwhelmingly female. The honest caveat survives the growth: the surrounding actives are the proven workhorses, and the cannabidiol remains the part of the formula asking shoppers for the most faith.

Mantle The Remedy Balm tin, a fragrance-free multipurpose rescue balm with shea butter, dual ceramides, CoQ10, sea buckthorn and hemp for dry, chapped skin Multipurpose Rescue Balm

The Remedy Balm

Mantle's multipurpose rescue balm — the reformulated, now fragrance-free successor to its cult Calm Balm — is a cut above basic petroleum jelly: shea and lanolin for rich protection, plus a dual ceramide complex, CoQ10, and sea buckthorn so it helps repair dry, chapped patches rather than just sealing them. It's soothing and versatile; just note it isn't vegan (lanolin, beeswax) and it's too rich for all-over oily skin.

The Dream Mask

Mantle's The Dream Mask is a genuinely smart overnight repair mask wearing clean-CBD branding. Set the hemp aside and you find the real engine: bakuchiol for gentle retinol-style renewal, niacinamide, skin-identical lipids, CoQ10, and sea buckthorn, in a gel that doubles as a barrier-sealing night moisturizer. It works, and you wake plumper and calmer. The catches are a premium price and a surprising fragrance load, parfum plus five allergens, in a product sold on barrier care.

The Glow Serum

A gentle, nicely-composed bakuchiol oil serum that delivers a genuine dewy glow and retinol-free smoothing, wrapped in Mantle's Scandinavian hemp identity. The bakuchiol and barrier-supporting lipids are the real value; the hemp is more brand signature than proven active. It's lovely to use — just premium-priced, and a touch rich for oily skin.
