The story behind MooGoo Read the full story

The first recipe was meant for cows. Craig Jones's mother, worn down by psoriasis that nothing at the pharmacy could calm, discovered relief in a thick paste designed to soothe the cracked udders of dairy cattle. It worked, but it was greasy and impossibly heavy — fine for a milking shed, miserable to wear — so Jones, who had no background whatsoever in cosmetics, taught himself to rework it into something lighter and human-friendly. He christened the first batch Udder Cream; his mother found the name crass, and the compromise was MooGoo. The whole enterprise began in 2005 in a saucepan, in the kitchen of a two-bedroom Perth apartment, and grew the unglamorous way: slowly, by word of mouth, sold to people whose skin reacted to everything else. From the start the bet was contrarian — that recognizable, food-grade ingredients suited reactive, compromised skin better than long synthetic decks, and that eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis sufferers were an underserved audience worth building around. The range crept outward from balms into deodorant, mineral sunscreen, shampoo and even a fluoride-free toothpaste, the unifying test being whether Jones would happily use a product on his own children. That stubborn independence has shaped the company's choices as much as its formulas: it has publicly walked away from a lucrative China distribution deal rather than submit to required animal testing, and famously declined a major supermarket listing to keep control of how the products were sold. Two decades on, it stocks thousands of Australian outlets and ships across the UK, US and New Zealand, much of the loyalty still earned through recommendation. The honest read: this is a likeable, genuinely well-meaning brand that does gentle and uncomplicated extremely well. What it is not is a clinical powerhouse — 'natural' and 'no nasties' are framing more than science, and a soothing balm is daily comfort, not a substitute for treating a diagnosed skin condition.

Milk Wash

A genuinely gentle, soap-free, sulfate-free face and body wash built entirely on mild glucoside and amino-acid surfactants — it cleans dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin without that stripped, tight feeling. Broadly suitable and vegan (despite the 'Milk' name, no dairy). The one quibble, for such a sensitive-skin product, is the added fragrant oil.

MooGoo Soothing MSM Moisturiser tub, Australian natural soothing cream with 10% MSM, almond and olive oils, honey and allantoin for red irritated skin MSM Soothing Cream for Redness
MooGoo moisturizer

Soothing MSM Moisturiser

The soothing-focused MooGoo moisturiser: a meaningful 10% MSM, a sulfur compound with a calming reputation, in an edible-grade oil base with honey, allantoin and hops, aimed at red, irritated, reactive skin. It genuinely soothes many users. The caveats mirror its siblings — vanilla fragrance, nut and honey allergens, and comedogenic coconut oil — so 'natural' here still warrants an allergen check.
