More about OdeleThe story behind Odele Read the full story
Two of the people behind this brand learned the retail business from the inside of the very chain that would later carry it: they met in the University of Minnesota's MBA program and went on to spend years as a senior buyer and a brand-builder at Target and General Mills, watching up close how shelf space is won and lost. That insider knowledge is the unglamorous secret behind a line that looked, on arrival, like it had been around for years. The reality was eighty-odd reformulations and a pitch that got sent back before it came together.
The founding insight was less about a hero ingredient than about an absence. Premium hair care was either expensive or cluttered with claims; nobody was offering genuinely well-edited, gender-neutral, salon-adjacent formulas at a price a family could shrug at. The answer was deliberately restrained, simple ranges, quiet packaging, free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrance, designed to feel considered rather than loud. The trio treated good design as a democratizing tool rather than a luxury tax.
The growth that followed came without a splashy advertising war chest. Reviews, press, and sampling did the work, and sales climbed past the thirty-million-dollar mark with a roughly fifty-percent jump in a single year, eventually drawing a minority private-equity investment to fund the next stage. Leaning hard into its Minnesota identity, the company signed a multiyear sponsorship of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx, making it one of the rare women-founded brands to back a major professional team and pointing its marketing squarely at a women's-sports audience the beauty industry had largely overlooked. It is a strategy as tidy and unflashy as the bottles themselves.

More about Odele
Founded in 2019 by Lindsay Holden, Britta Chatterjee, and Shannon Kearney, Odele is a women-owned, affordably priced clean hair- and body-care brand built on a free-from ingredient philosophy.
Its formulas are positioned as salon-quality and gentle rather than clinically validated, and the brand makes few treatment-level efficacy claims.
