The story behind OneSkin Read the full story

Carolina Reis Oliveira's first big professional swing wasn't a moisturizer at all. Before this venture, she ran a biotech startup in Brazil building lab-grown skin models to replace animal testing for cosmetics safety, and it was that work, staring at engineered tissue all day, that pushed her toward a stranger question: could the skin itself be reprogrammed to behave younger? She and her future colleague had trained side by side in the same lab years earlier, both immersed in stem-cell biology and tissue engineering, and they relocated to the Bay Area chasing that idea rather than a product.

The screening process behind the OS-01 molecule is the part worth understanding. The team didn't dream up a peptide and reverse-engineer a marketing story; they ran candidate molecules against their own engineered skin tissue, measuring whether each one actually reduced markers of senescent, inflammation-spewing cells. The winner was selected because it scored best on those assays, then formulated into a topical only afterward. That order of operations, biology first and bottle second, is the genuinely unusual thing here.

The product line grew outward from a single hero molecule into a deliberately narrow system: a face supplement, then body, eye, a cleanser meant to prep skin, and an SPF that carries the same peptide. Rather than chase trends, each release essentially asks where else the OS-01 chemistry might do useful work. The brand has cultivated a following in longevity and biohacking circles, where the language of "hallmarks of aging" already resonates, and it has leaned into academic-style publishing as both ethos and differentiator.

The approach has limits worth naming. A platform built on one proprietary molecule lives or dies by how that molecule holds up under independent scrutiny over time, and the longevity framing invites bigger expectations than any daily topical can meet. But as a case study in a research-first beauty company, it remains a rare one.

OneSkin OS-01 SHIELD SPF 30 mineral sunscreen, a high-zinc broad-spectrum SPF with the OS-01 peptide and antioxidants Mineral SPF with a Peptide Twist
OneSkin sunscreen

OS-01 SHIELD SPF 30

Judged as a sunscreen, this is genuinely good: 17.5% non-nano zinc for robust broad-spectrum protection, antioxidants, iron oxides to offset white cast, fragrance-free and gentle enough for sensitive skin. Judged on its headline OS-01 'senescence-blocking' peptide, it's a more speculative proposition — the dramatic anti-aging claims rest on company research. Buy it for the excellent mineral SPF; treat the longevity peptide as a promising, unproven bonus.

OneSkin body care

OS-01 BODY Topical Supplement

A genuinely excellent, gentle body moisturizer with a real ceramide-and-barrier core, nourishing butters, and OneSkin's research-backed OS-01 peptide — fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive, dry body skin. It deeply hydrates and strengthens the barrier without grease; the sticking point is the price, which is very high for a body lotion and rides largely on the novel peptide.

OneSkin moisturizer

OS-01 FACE Topical Supplement

A genuinely science-led peptide moisturizer that stands apart from the usual peptide marketing — OS-01 is a proprietary active the brand actually developed and studied to target cellular senescence, wrapped in a gentle, fragrance-free, all-skin-types formula with niacinamide, multi-weight HA, and nourishing oils. It's excellent and tolerable; the catches are a steep price and anti-aging proof that's promising but still emerging.

OneSkin OS-01 Cleanser (PREP), a gentle fragrance-free daily cleanser with mild surfactants and soothing botanicals Gentle Daily Cleanser
OneSkin cleanser

OS-01 Cleanser (PREP)

A genuinely gentle, fragrance-free daily cleanser — mild sulfate-free surfactants, soothing prickly pear and arnica, a touch of niacinamide — that rinses clean without stripping and suits most skin, sensitive included. It's even fungal-acne-safe. Two honest notes: despite the 'OS-01' name it doesn't contain the brand's peptide, and it's premium-priced for what is, fundamentally, a simple good cleanser.

OneSkin eye cream

OS-01 EYE Topical Supplement

A genuinely well-formulated, gentle peptide eye cream that brings OneSkin's research-backed OS-01 to the eye area, paired thoughtfully with a collagen-mimetic peptide, caffeine, and CoQ10 in a fragrance-free, eczema-accepted base. It hydrates, de-puffs, and is exceptionally tolerable; the catches are a steep price for 15ml and anti-aging benefits that are promising but gradual and still emerging.

More about OneSkin

Founded in 2016 by four PhD scientists; unusually for the category, the brand has published peer-reviewed research on its OS-01 peptide, including a double-blind, vehicle-controlled trial, though most studies are company-authored and real-world effect sizes are modest.
