The story behind Rael Read the full story

A movie distributor with a Harvard MBA, an architect-turned-art-director, and a journalist who'd published a bestseller walk into a problem. It sounds like the setup to a joke, but it's the actual founding team, and the problem was real: as Korean women living in the United States, they kept comparing the gentle, cotton-based period products they'd grown up with to the scratchier, synthetic options crowding American shelves, and the gap nagged at them. The architect and the journalist, former colleagues, eventually talked the Disney executive into leaving entertainment to build something around it.

What they built started in the most unglamorous corner of personal care. Organic-cotton pads and liners were the opening bet, sourced from Texas cotton and engineered with Korean manufacturing know-how, and they climbed to become a category bestseller on Amazon faster than anyone expected. That success underwrote a Series A raise and, more importantly, gave the founders a customer base that trusted them on intimate, ingredient-sensitive products.

The skincare grew directly out of that trust, but it grew through a specific lens. The CEO had wrestled with hormonal acne for years, and the more the team studied how the menstrual cycle drives breakouts, oil, and mood, the more they reframed the company around the idea of caring for skin according to where someone is in their cycle. Hydrocolloid pimple patches, microneedle dots, and spot covers became the hero products of that pivot, pairing the same clean-ingredient ethos with proven blemish chemistry.

From a direct-to-consumer beginning the brand pushed hard into mass retail, landing on shelves at Target, Walmart, Ulta, CVS, and Walgreens. The "cycle care" framing is clever wellness storytelling built on a kernel of genuine physiology, and the patches themselves are well-made, dependable performers.

More about Rael

Founded in 2017 in Los Angeles by three Korean American women, beginning with organic-cotton period care before expanding into K-beauty-inspired skincare; its period products carry third-party certifications, but the skincare's claims rest largely on ingredient reputation rather than on published clinical studies.
