The story behind ZitSticka Read the full story

It started, improbably, with a golf-ball-sized boil on co-founder Daniel Kaplan's backside. The tar-like ointment he reached for left a dark stain on his skin and a nagging question in his head: why did every spot treatment just sit on the surface, when the trouble was happening underneath it? He took the puzzle to his brother-in-law, who carried a background spanning pharmaceuticals, skincare, and tech, and the two, both longtime acne sufferers themselves, set out to build something that could actually reach a blemish before it crested.

Their answer borrowed from transdermal drug delivery. The debut KILLA patch is studded with dozens of self-dissolving microdarts that gently puncture the skin's barrier to ferry salicylic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and peptides into a forming pimple. Crucially, it targeted a different moment than the familiar flat hydrocolloid sticker: not the visible whitehead you can already squeeze, but the deep, tender under-the-skin zit you can feel brewing days early. That single reframe effectively spun up a new category, and KILLA landed on a major magazine's annual best-inventions list; most microdart patches that followed trace their design back to it.

The brand widened from a direct-to-consumer hit into hydrocolloid patches, prep swabs, supplements, and body care, picking up real momentum before the founders relocated abroad, a move that strained leadership and helped tip them toward a sale.

The microdart concept is genuinely clever and fills a narrow gap surface patches can't, intercepting the occasional cyst early. Two honest caveats temper the hype: it's a spot treatment, not a routine for chronic breakouts, and the efficacy figures come from small perception panels rather than rigorous trials, while cheaper imitators now do much the same job.

Killa Deep Zit Microdart Patch

The product that invented the pre-emptive cystic patch category, and still the standard the rest of the field is measured against. The microdart delivery genuinely reaches early-stage deep pimples that surface treatments and hydrocolloid patches can't address, the active stack is clinically thoughtful, and the results when applied early are visibly dramatic. Expensive per patch, but for cystic acne sufferers it's one of the few skincare products that justifies the sticker.

GOO GETTER Pore Clarifying Pimple Patch

A well-formulated medicated pimple patch that combines hydrocolloid fluid absorption with four targeted actives, delivering faster results on surface-level blemishes than basic patches. The price-per-patch premium is justified if you value the active ingredient infusion, though it only works on blemishes that have already surfaced.

Hyperfade Dark Spot Microdart Patch

A genuinely clever delivery system wrapped around a comprehensive brightening cocktail. The dissolvable hyaluronic acid microdarts solve the surface-absorption problem that limits most topical hyperpigmentation treatments, and the active stack — tranexamic acid, niacinamide, kojic acid, arbutin, and L-ascorbic acid — is more thorough than most single-active spot serums. Expensive per patch, but if traditional brightening creams haven't moved the needle on your post-acne marks, this is one of the more justified premium spends in the category.

More about ZitSticka

Launched in 2019 by brothers-in-law Daniel Kaplan and Robbie Miller and acquired by brand-aggregator Heyday in 2022, ZitSticka pioneered the microdart acne patch.

Its efficacy is supported largely by small consumer-perception studies rather than large independent clinical trials.
