How well it fits each concern

Some few hundred YesStyle reviews and pools at Korean retailers over two years give the mask a reasonable record within its line, and the brand publishes no testing. The assessment rests on the disclosed essence, the well-understood mechanics of cooling and cotton sheet masks, and the known evidence thresholds for the trace actives rather than on outcome data for this sheet.

Review

The full review

A hot, red, flaring breakout wants one thing before it wants anything else, and that is to be cooler, which is why the oldest acne advice is a cold flannel and why Isntree built its Onion Newpair Soothing Mask around a temperature drop. Erythritol, a sugar alcohol eighth in the list, absorbs heat as it dissolves on damp skin, the brand's sheet is described as carrying a cooling mineral, and the pouch chilled in the fridge doubles both; the mask lands cold, and within a minute a face that was hot and angry feels and looks calmer. That is the product's real mechanism, it is a good one, and it is honest, because cooling an inflamed lesion reduces the redness and swelling that make a breakout look worse than it is, and a sheet mask that does that on a flare night has earned its $2.50 before its actives are even considered.

The actives are where the mask becomes a small lesson in how Korean masks are sold. After the cooling comes a soothing set that genuinely works, dipotassium glycyrrhizate at thirteenth, panthenol and a centella leaf extract lower down, which keep the calm going after the cold has faded; then eight hyaluronates in the second half of the list, including two silanol-bound forms, with sodium hyaluronate higher up, which is why the skin is still dewy in the morning. And then the 'vital complex': niacinamide, nicotinamide mononucleotide, acetylneuraminic acid, pure ascorbic acid, tranexamic acid and copper tripeptide-1, a roll-call of the last few years' trending actives, all in the lower half of a thirty-six-ingredient list at undeclared levels that are, by position, traces. NMN and sialic acid have almost no topical evidence at any dose; vitamin C, tranexamic acid and GHK-Cu have evidence from daily leave-on use at concentrations a twenty-minute mask cannot approach; niacinamide is the only one placed to matter, and modestly. The red onion extract, first in the line's toner and pad, is sixteenth here, a supporting quercetin note. None of this harms anything, and the formula stays fragrance-free, alcohol-free, oil-free and fungal-acne-safe; it just means a buyer should choose the mask for the cold, the licorice and the hyaluronates and read the rest as the pouch's costume.

In use it is exactly the mask its reviews describe, and the format suits the job better than a gel or a cream would, because a wet cotton sheet holds cold against the skin in a way a thin layer of gel cannot, and because the sheet stops the wearer from touching the spots for twenty minutes, which is its own small mercy. The thin cotton sheet fits closely and lands cold, colder from the fridge, the cooling fades over ten minutes into a plain hydrating mask, there is no sting on active spots, and by morning the redness is down and the skin comfortable and settled; the few hundred YesStyle reviews say so with unusual unanimity, and their complaints are the format's, a cooling that fades, a sheet that dries if left too long, and no effect on marks. After sun or an acid night it does the same job, and for a face that flushes it is a better bedtime treat than most calming masks at any price.

The limits are honest and small, and most of them belong to the format rather than to the formula. The mask calms a breakout; it does not treat one, and the retinoid, benzoyl peroxide or acid used on other nights is where the acne is addressed. Marks fade through the line's leave-ons and sunscreen, not through a trace of tranexamic acid in a mask. The cotton must come off damp, the sheet slides on the nose, and the five-pack is small enough that a breakout-prone month goes through two of them.

On price, $12.50 for five at the brand's global store, $2.50 a sheet, is among the cheapest well-formulated calming masks sold, and it is a genuine bargain for the cooling and the soothing set; two or three a week makes a box last two to three weeks. The money buys the cold, the licorice and the hyaluronates; the vital complex comes free and does nothing, which is the correct price for it.

One practical point deserves its own sentence: the essence is generous, and the pouch holds more than the sheet can carry, so the extra belongs on the neck and chest rather than in the bin, and on a hot night a chilled pouch pressed against the cheeks before the sheet goes on is a pleasure the price does not suggest.

So the recommendation is cheerful. Oily, combination, sensitive or normal acne-prone skin that wants a fridge-cold, fragrance-free sheet mask to calm a flaring breakout, a sun-flushed face or an over-exfoliated night should keep a box of these and use them without hesitation; they do the one thing a mask can do for inflamed skin and do it cheaply. Anyone buying for the NMN, the peptide or the tranexamic acid should read where they sit in the list, and buy the mask anyway, for the right reason.

The science

The mask's primary effect is thermal. Erythritol, a sugar alcohol with a strongly negative heat of solution, absorbs heat as it dissolves in the essence's water and on damp skin, producing a genuine cooling sensation; a chilled sheet adds thermal mass, and surface cooling of inflamed skin produces vasoconstriction that reduces erythema and oedema for the duration of contact and shortly after, which is the mechanism of cold compresses in inflammatory acne and sunburn. The brand's description of a cooling mineral in the sheet is unverified. Dipotassium glycyrrhizate, a glycyrrhizic acid salt with documented anti-inflammatory activity, panthenol, with controlled evidence for barrier recovery and reduced irritation, and Centella asiatica leaf extract, with evidence for erythema reduction, extend the calming beyond the cooling. Glycerin, butylene glycol, dipropylene glycol and eight hyaluronate species, including dimethylsilanol hyaluronate and sodium hyaluronate dimethylsilanol, silanol-bound forms marketed for firming with supplier data only, provide humectancy and a surface film; hydrolysed and low-weight fractions penetrate the outer epidermis.

The vital complex is present at levels below its evidence. Niacinamide, in the lower half of the list, may reach a low but non-trivial concentration; nicotinamide mononucleotide has no meaningful topical clinical evidence; acetylneuraminic (sialic) acid is marketed for barrier and anti-ageing support on in vitro and supplier data; ascorbic acid at a trace in a pH-unspecified aqueous essence is unstable and inactive; tranexamic acid has evidence for pigmentation at 2 to 5 percent in leave-on use; copper tripeptide-1 has small studies in wound healing and photoageing at daily leave-on doses. In a twenty-minute cotton mask at trace positions none is expected to act. Allium cepa bulb extract, sixteenth, contributes quercetin and organosulfur compounds with in vitro anti-inflammatory activity; hydrolysed gardenia extract adds antioxidant crocins; adenosine supports a Korean functional wrinkle claim; tocopherol is an antioxidant; arginine and citrate-free buffering with carbomer set the gel; polyglyceryl-10 laurate solubilises; preservation uses 1,2-hexanediol, hydroxyacetophenone and ethylhexylglycerin with disodium EDTA. The cotton format loses essence within about twenty minutes and reverses hydration if left to dry. The formula is fragrance-free, alcohol-free, oil-free, fungal-acne-safe, vegan and suitable in pregnancy. The brand's testing is unpublished, and no independent study exists.

The clinical view

Dermatologists treat cooling as a legitimate comfort measure for inflamed acne and sunburn, equivalent to a cold compress, and would regard a fragrance-free, oil-free sheet mask with an erythritol-cooled essence and a licorice-panthenol-centella soothing set as an appropriate calming adjunct on flare nights for acne-prone and sensitive skin, with the reminder that it reduces the redness and swelling of lesions without treating the follicle, which remains the job of retinoids, benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. They would describe the NMN, sialic acid, vitamin C, tranexamic acid and copper peptide as marketing at trace levels in a short-contact mask, the onion extract as a supporting botanical, and would correct any expectation that a mask fades post-inflammatory marks. Hygiene is the practical note: clean skin, one sheet, no reuse, and no mask over broken or weeping lesions.

Formula

Key ingredients

  1. Erythritol with a Cooling 'Cold Stone' Sheet

Erythritol eighth in the list, a sugar alcohol that draws heat as it dissolves and gives the essence its cold-on-contact feel, on a sheet the brand says contains a cooling mineral; the mask's calming is largely this immediate temperature drop, which takes the heat and redness out of an inflamed face for the length of the wear.

  2. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate with Panthenol and Centella

The licorice-derived anti-inflammatory at thirteenth, with panthenol and a centella leaf extract lower down: the soothing set that makes the mask's calm last past the cooling, and the reason it suits a face flushed by breakouts, sun or an acid night.

  3. Eight-Form Hyaluronic Acid Complex including Dimethylsilanol Hyaluronate

Eight hyaluronates in the second half of the list, including two silanol-bound forms marketed for firmness, plus sodium hyaluronate higher up: the plumping humectant film that gives the mask its hydration and keeps the skin dewy into the next morning.

  4. Vital Complex (Niacinamide, NMN, Sialic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, Copper Tripeptide-1)

The brand's 'vital complex': niacinamide and a run of fashionable actives, nicotinamide mononucleotide, acetylneuraminic acid, pure vitamin C, tranexamic acid and GHK-Cu, all in the lower half of a thirty-six-ingredient list at undeclared, modest levels; a label of ambition in a twenty-minute mask, with the niacinamide the only one placed to matter.

    Limited for Acne
  5. Red Onion Bulb Extract (Allium Cepa)

Sixteenth here rather than first, the line's Muan red onion at a supporting level that lends the essence a quercetin-rich soothing note and the mask its name; its scar-gel reputation belongs to a different format.

Layering

Once the face is cleansed and toned, unfold the cooling sheet over the face for ten to twenty minutes, remove it while damp, pat in the essence and seal with a light gel cream; chill the pouch for a stronger effect on a flushed or sun-stressed face. It slots in on the night of a breakout flare, after an acid or retinoid, or before an event, and needs no adjustment.

When to expect results

Immediate: a cold, calming sheet that visibly takes the redness out of an inflamed face for the evening and leaves it hydrated and dewy. Short-term (2-3 uses a week): fewer angry-looking breakouts and a calmer, more even surface. Long-term: nothing cumulative beyond calm and hydration; the vital complex's actives are traces, and marks fade at the pace of the leave-ons around it.

How to use it, and who it's for

How to use

Chill the pouch in the fridge for an hour if the face is hot, flushed or sunburnt. After cleansing and toning in the evening, open the pouch, unfold the cotton sheet and lay it over the face, aligning the openings and smoothing it flat so it clings, then relax for ten to twenty minutes while the cooling fades into plain hydration. Remove the sheet while it is still damp, pat the essence into the face and pour the extra from the pouch onto the neck, then seal with a light gel cream. Use it on the night of a breakout flare, after an acid or retinoid, after sun, or before an occasion, two or three times a week as needed; it is safe on active spots but should not go over broken or weeping skin. Discard each sheet after one use.

Is it worth the price?

At $12.50 for five on the brand's global store, $2.50 a sheet, the mask is among the cheapest well-formulated calming sheet masks available and cheaper than most cotton masks carrying far less; two or three a week makes a box last two to three weeks, and the pouch's extra essence covers the neck. The money buys the cooling, the soothing set and the hyaluronates, which are the product; the vital complex comes free and adds nothing at its levels. Excellent value as a breakout-night and after-sun mask; unnecessary for anyone who only wants hydration, which a toner supplies for less.

Who should buy it

Oily, combination, sensitive or normal acne-prone skin that wants a fridge-cold, fragrance-free sheet mask to calm a flaring breakout, a sun-flushed face or an over-exfoliated night, and users of the Onion Newpair gel cream or toner who want the matching mask. It suits anyone stocking a fridge with cheap, genuinely calming masks for the nights skin misbehaves.

Who should skip it

Anyone buying for the NMN, copper peptide or tranexamic acid should know they are traces in a twenty-minute mask, and anyone expecting a mask to treat acne or fade marks should look to leave-on actives instead. Skin with broken or weeping lesions should not wear a sheet over them, and people who only want hydration will get it for less from a toner.

What the first two weeks feel like

The first use is the mask's whole argument: it goes on cold, colder from the fridge, and within a minute a hot, red, breakout-flushed face feels and looks calmer; the cooling fades over ten minutes and the sheet then works as a plain hydrating mask, leaving the skin dewy and settled with no sting on active spots. By morning the redness is down and the skin is comfortable. There is nothing to adjust to beyond removing the sheet while damp.

The story behind it

Why it exists

Isntree's Onion Newpair line added a sheet mask in 2024 as the calming step for the acne-prone customers of its gel cream and ampoule, choosing a cooling sheet and an erythritol essence for the immediate relief a flaring breakout wants, and loading the essence with a vital complex of the year's trending actives. It has become one of the line's best-liked products and is sold in five-packs.

About Isntree Established Brand (5–20 years)

Isntree, founded in South Korea in 2016, sells minimalist, well-priced formulas through Amazon, YesStyle and its own global store, and its Onion Newpair line is its post-blemish range built on Muan red onion. Myth vs. reality

What people get wrong about it

MythThe NMN, sialic acid and copper peptide in the mask repair the skin

RealityNicotinamide mononucleotide, acetylneuraminic acid and copper tripeptide-1 are trending actives with thin topical evidence, here in the lower half of the list at undeclared trace levels in a twenty-minute mask; they are decoration. The mask's real work is the cooling, the licorice and panthenol and the hyaluronates, and its real result is a calmer, hydrated face for the evening.

MythA soothing mask treats the acne it calms

RealityCooling and calming reduce the redness and heat of inflamed breakouts for an evening and make them look better by morning; they do not clear the follicle, kill bacteria or prevent the next spot. The mask is comfort and support on flare nights, and the treatment is the retinoid, benzoyl peroxide or acid used on other nights.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can the Isntree Onion Newpair Soothing Mask be used on active breakouts?

Yes, that is what it is for: it is fragrance-free, alcohol-free and oil-free, lands cold and calms the heat and redness of inflamed spots within minutes, with licorice-derived glycyrrhizate, panthenol and centella to keep them calm and eight hyaluronates to hydrate. It does not sting on active acne and leaves breakouts looking calmer by morning; it does not treat the acne itself.

What makes the Onion Newpair Soothing Mask cooling?

Erythritol, a sugar alcohol eighth in the list that absorbs heat as it dissolves on the skin, on a sheet the brand describes as containing a cooling 'cold stone' mineral; chilling the pouch in the fridge doubles the effect. The cold fades over about ten minutes, after which the mask works as a plain hydrating sheet.

Do the NMN, sialic acid and copper peptide in the mask do anything?

Very little. Nicotinamide mononucleotide, acetylneuraminic acid, copper tripeptide-1, pure vitamin C and tranexamic acid sit in the lower half of a thirty-six-ingredient list at undeclared trace levels, in a twenty-minute mask; their topical evidence, where it exists, comes from daily leave-on use at higher doses. The niacinamide is the only one placed to matter, and the mask's effect is cooling, calming and hydration.

How long should I leave the Onion Newpair Soothing Mask on?

Ten to twenty minutes, removing it while the cotton is still damp; a drying sheet pulls water back out of the skin. Pat the essence in, pour the extra from the pouch onto the neck and seal with a light gel cream. Chill it first on a hot, flushed or sunburnt night.

Does the Onion Newpair Soothing Mask fade acne marks?

No. Its tranexamic acid, vitamin C and onion extract are at trace or supporting levels in a wash-off-in-twenty-minutes format; marks fade through the line's leave-on toner, pad and gel cream, sunscreen and time. The mask's job is to calm the breakout while it is red, which indirectly helps the mark it leaves.

Is the Onion Newpair Soothing Mask worth $12.50 for five?

At $2.50 a sheet it is among the cheapest well-formulated calming masks sold, and its cooling and soothing set genuinely help a breakout night; a five-pack lasts two to three weeks at two or three masks a week. It is hydration and calm only, which is what a sheet mask should be judged on, and on that measure it is a bargain.
