The story behind Biodance Read the full story

The product that made this brand famous traces back to a hospital recovery, not a marketing brief. In 2013, before any company existed, Mihwa Kim was in a car accident that left burns and scars across her face, at a time when her work as a TV shopping host required showing up on camera daily. During her recovery she became fixated on the humble hydrocolloid patches doing the slow, unglamorous work of healing her wounds, and walked away with a conviction unusual in beauty: that wound-care logic could be redirected into everyday skincare meant to genuinely repair rather than merely cover.

That insight had to wait years to become a product, and longer still to become a phenomenon. The eventual Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask paired a fabric-free, seaweed-derived hydrogel matrix with an ultra-low-molecular collagen fragment, oligo-hyaluronic acid and a multi-strain ferment complex, all engineered to seal against the face and stay put for hours.

Its breakout was almost an accident of format. The mask's milky gel turns transparent as it works, and that slow, visible peel-back moment was perfectly built for short-form video; TikTok filled with the reveal, racking up hundreds of millions of views. The brand converted that attention with unusual efficiency, climbing the rankings on Amazon, Sephora and Boots and reportedly topping Amazon's Beauty and Personal Care category during a Black Friday and Cyber Monday stretch.

From that single hero the line fanned out into serums, toner pads, eye patches and a sprayable jelly mist, all orbiting the same collagen-and-hydrogel theme. The honest assessment is that this is one of the rare viral hits that mostly earns its reach: the masks deliver a real if temporary plump-and-hydrate effect, and the transparency cue is harmless theater wrapped around a competent formula. The caveats are the familiar ones, topical collagen hydrates rather than rebuilds, the effect fades, and a young brand leaning on one category still lacks deep independent validation.

Radiant Vita Niacinamide Serum

A fragrance-free, fairly priced niacinamide serum with a dewy finish and a number on the front — 20 percent — that is bigger than the evidence needs and bigger than some faces will enjoy. On robust oily or combination skin with post-acne marks it does the job well; on reactive skin the dose is the reason to pick something gentler.

First Synergy Toner

The least interesting product Biodance makes, in the best way: a fragrance-free, alcohol-free, acid-free hydrating toner with panthenol and a dense hyaluronate block at pH 5.5, priced under $20 for 150ml. It hydrates, soothes fresh-from-the-cleanser tightness, layers under anything and asks nothing of you. If you want a toner that does one job for any skin type without a story attached, this is it.

Hydro Cera-nol Real Deep Mask

The collagen mask's more useful sibling: the same eight-hour hydrogel, but built to calm and repair rather than to glow. Panthenol and niacinamide sit high enough to work, the lipid phase makes it comfortable on dry and sun-stressed skin, and the ceramides are more label than dose. At about five dollars a night it is a treat, but an effective one.

Hydro Cera-nol Serum

The most quietly competent product Biodance has made: a fragrance-free barrier serum with panthenol fourth, niacinamide sixth and five ceramides in a base that can actually carry them. It has no data of its own and it is not oil-free whatever the reviews say, but for skin that stings after washing it does what it promises within a week, at a fair price.

Biodance Bio Collagen Hydrogel Concentrated Mask 4-pack Viral Mask Worth The Hype
Biodance mask

Bio Collagen Hydrogel Concentrated Mask

The viral mask mostly earns the hype — a genuinely novel hydrogel delivery matrix, a fragrance-free formula with layered hyaluronic acid, a four-ferment probiotic bench, and a readable niacinamide dose. The morning-after plumping and pore-refining effect is real and consistent, even if the benefits fade without repeat use. Treat it as a weekly special step, not a daily treatment.

Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask

The mask that broke TikTok in 2023 is — annoyingly for skeptics — mostly worth the hype. Biodance's hydrogel isn't a collagen miracle, but as a weekly hydration-and-glow treatment it delivers genuine morning-after results at a price that's indulgent but not absurd. A legitimate pre-event secret weapon with one big caveat about the marketing story.

Caviar PDRN Jelly Serum Mist

The Collagen Peptide mist's twin, with the buzzwords swapped: caviar and salmon PDRN replace collagen and peptides, but the product underneath is the same fragrance-free hydrating jelly mist. It's 76% caviar water (a humectant), PDRN at 0.1%, and caviar extract at a trace 77ppm, with real niacinamide doing the actual skincare. A lovely hydration-and-glow setting mist wearing a more expensive-sounding luxury-and-trend story.

A very good hydrating toner pad wearing a firming costume. The thick, cool, collagen-water gel is a genuine pleasure and one of the gentlest first steps in the category — no acid, no alcohol, no fragrance — and the plumped, pore-blurred look it leaves is real for a few hours. The elasticity story rests on trace growth factors and does not survive a second read of the label.

Skin Glow Essence Cream

The most honestly built cream in Biodance's range: five ceramides with the cholesterol and phytosphingosine they need, a real niacinamide dose, and a water-in-oil base that keeps all of it on the skin overnight. It is richer than the 'essence' name implies and carries a tail of rose water and botanicals that a truly irritant-free formula wouldn't, but at $29 it's a very good barrier cream for dry and sensitised skin.

Buy these for the format, not the fish. The cotton-then-hydrogel construction genuinely works — a slippery, trace-acid polish followed by a five-minute humectant sit is a smart way to spend a toner step — and the niacinamide, PHA and squalane do real work. Collagen Mask to Foam Cleanser

The sticky, mochi-like gel is a genuine formulation trick — glycerin above water, mild amino-acid surfactants, starch to make the lather cling — and it turns one $19 tube into a comfortable morning wash and a three-minute pore mask that actually helps a shiny T-zone. The collagen and peptide are rinse-off garnish and the botanical tail is unnecessary, but as a cheap, sulfate-free foam for combination skin it's a quiet success.

Collagen Peptide Jelly Serum Mist

Biodance's viral bio-collagen fame, spritzed into a bottle. It's a genuinely pleasant, fragrance-free hydrating and makeup-setting jelly mist with real niacinamide — but the 'collagen peptide anti-aging' story is 77% humectant collagen water plus a showcase of ten peptides dosed at 0.1 parts per billion, which is to say statistically closer to absent than present. As a refreshing hydration-and-glow mist, lovely. As an anti-aging treatment, it's a mist.

Collagen Peptide Liposome Bubble Booster

Where the Biodance mist was mostly theater, the bubble booster has bones. This liposome-delivery foam essence adds what the mist lacked — ceramide NP, barrier lipids, phytosterols, and a genuine lecithin liposome system — making it an actual hydrating, plumping essence rather than a glorified mist. The collagen-and-peptide anti-aging branding is still marketing, but the base is a real skincare step. A pleasant, well-built prep essence, held back only by a rose-water scent.

Collagen Cleansing Oil

A genuinely good first cleanser hiding behind a name that has nothing to do with it. Thin, PEG-free, instantly emulsifying and unusually kind to oily, blackhead-prone skin, it takes off waterproof sunscreen in a minute and rinses to nothing — and $22 for 200ml is a fair price for that. Pore Perfecting Collagen Peptide Cream

An elastic, silicone-smooth gel-cream that blurs pores the second it sets and lets a well-placed dose of niacinamide do the slow work of tightening them. The collagen water and ten trailing peptides are the marketing layer — plausible, undosed, and not the reason it works. A properly engineered enzyme cleanser — papain sealed dry until use, two of the mildest surfactants going, a five-ceramide lipid set to soften the exit — with a texture that shames most powder washes. The catch is arithmetic: thirty single-use packs at $24 to $28 means eighty-plus cents a wash. Buy it as a few-times-a-week polish or a travel cleanser, not a daily face wash, and it's excellent.

The best-designed exfoliant Biodance makes and one of the smarter daily PHA toners at any price: 8% gluconolactone, buffered, with a trace of LHA for pores, then a barrier cream's worth of ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids and NMF dissolved in behind it. More about Biodance

Founded in Seoul in 2021 by Mihwa Kim under parent company Beauty Selection, Biodance is a young, socially driven K-beauty brand; its reputation rests largely on one viral hydrogel-mask category, and independent long-term clinical validation remains limited.
