The whole operation grew out of a makeup company that had already mastered one trick: turning a runway or red-carpet look into an affordable dupe on a drugstore shelf before the trend cooled. That parent group, launched in 2014, built its name on fast, social-media-fluent budget cosmetics, and when the skincare arm arrived a few years later it simply ran the identical playbook on serums and acids, spot the trending active, formulate it quickly, price it below the cost of lunch, and let TikTok do the advertising. A retinol serum routinely landing under six pounds wasn't an accident; it was the entire thesis.
That thesis rests on an uncomfortable truth the line is happy to exploit: in a great deal of skincare, the actives themselves are cheap, and what you usually pay for is packaging, polish, and brand markup. Stripping most of that away made the catalogue an obvious, low-stakes on-ramp for a generation learning about ingredients on their phones, willing to experiment precisely because a mistake cost almost nothing. The range sprawled across vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, exfoliating acids, and overnight masks, distributed widely through mass-market chains.
The corporate story behind the cheerful pricing has been anything but smooth. The parent company's London listing was suspended in 2022 after it failed to file results, triggering an investigation that uncovered undisclosed personal loans from the founders to distributors and a problematic acquisition of a related pharmaceutical business. A boardroom fight followed, with the group's largest shareholder, a fast-fashion giant, staging a leadership coup in 2023, and a multimillion-pound settlement with a departed co-founder followed in 2024. Through all of it the formulas kept shipping, competent and unpretentious, fragrance sometimes turning up where sensitive skin would prefer it didn't, the products quietly outlasting the drama in the headlines above them.

More about Revolution Skincare
A budget actives line launched around 2018 under a fast-fashion beauty parent; the formulas are competent and usually deliver labeled concentrations, but the brand is marketing-led with little independent validation, and its parent weathered a serious accounting scandal in 2022.
