The founders kept their day jobs for two decades. Even as their custom cream caught on, the two pharmacists who created it stayed on staff at a Rochester hospital pharmacy well into the mid-1990s, running the side venture after hours until it simply grew too large to keep treating as a hobby. One of them had spent some thirty years as a research pharmacist at a major regional hospital, and that clinical-supply mindset, not a marketing instinct, is what shaped the product. The cream began as compounding work. Local dermatologists kept sending over patients with contact allergies who broke out on every commercial moisturizer they tried, and the pharmacists responded the way a hospital pharmacy would: by mixing batches stripped of the usual suspects, dyes, fragrance, lanolin, parabens, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, until they had something reactive skin could tolerate. The anchor moisturizer that emerged still leads the catalog more than four decades on, with the line later branching into cleansers, body washes, a diaper-rash cream, deodorant, and other quietly utilitarian basics rather than trend-chasing actives. A deliberate choice underpins the whole operation: although most items are legally cosmetics, the company elected to manufacture to drug-quality standards, submitting to the kind of routine inspection a cosmetics maker could legally skip. The business has stayed put and grown, expanding its Minnesota campus repeatedly in recent years and employing a couple hundred people, an unflashy trajectory that mirrors the products. The honest read is that this is one of the safest and least exciting recommendations in skincare, and that is exactly the point. There are no buzzy actives and no transformation promises, but for eczema, rosacea, contact dermatitis, or post-procedure skin, 'won't cause a problem' outranks novelty. Anyone chasing targeted anti-aging results should look elsewhere.
